Educational Resources

The museum's Education Department offers courses for teachers, including: graduate courses on "Cherokee Culture and History", in-service workshops on "Using the Museum in Your Classroom" and special workshops designed for visiting groups. Our goal is to provide accurate information and classroom resources for elementary and secondary teachers. Every course also includes experiences with Cherokee people.

The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded the museum a Challenge Grant, one of only thirty in the entire country. The museum must raise funds to match this grant. Your support will permanently fund programs for teachers, Cherokee language classes, and documentation of Cherokee culture. The museum does not receive any funds from gaming on the Qualla Boundary, so public support is crucial. If you would like to help support our education programs, contact Barbara Duncan, Ph.D., Director of Education. All contributions to the Museum are tax-deductible.
