Trail of Tears

Trail of Tears Photography Exhibit:

Fifty of David Fitzgerald’s beautiful photographs of contemporary locations on the Trail of Tears are accompanied by Duane King’s text and a reproduction of the 1838 protest roll containing 15,562 Cherokee names. The Trail of Tears National Historic Trail covers more than 1,200 miles through nine states from North Carolina to Oklahoma.

In the 1830s American Indian tribes were forcibly removed from their homes in the Southeast and marched to Indian Territory. These photographs evoke their historic homes, campsites, and routes.
