Workshops combining academic and experiential learning can be designed specifically for your school or group. The museum has conducted workshops for: University of Pittsburgh; Warren Wilson College; University of Massachusetts; Murphy Middle School; Macon Middle School; WRESA; teachers from White County, Georgia; North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching; National Park Service; and others. These Cherokee Experiences can include storytelling, dance, hands-on craft workshops, and traditional Cherokee food. Costs vary. Museum Tour: For groups of 15 or more: Museum Speaker: With Museum group tour, the Museum will provide one speaker free of charge from the Education Staff: Driver Pheasant, Jerry Wolfe, Bo Taylor, or Barbara Duncan, Ph.D., PROGRAMS FOR ADDITIONAL FEESStorytelling/Cherokee History and Culture:A one-hour program by an experienced storyteller or lecturer from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. $150 Music and Dance Program:A one-hour program on Cherokee music and dance involves your group in dancing. $225 Nature Walk:Experience nature with a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and learn about the plants of the Great Smoky Mountains. One hour. $150 Hands-on Crafts Workshops:Spend two hours with a Cherokee craftsperson making baskets, pottery, beadwork, or arrowheads. Maximum of 15 students per craftsperson. Costs for materials vary. $150 Lectures by Scholars:Learn about Cherokee archaeology, the Trail of Tears, and other special topics from visiting Ph.D., scholars. $225 Step-On Tour Guides for Cherokee Heritage Trails: These experienced guides have been trained and certified by the Museum of the Cherokee Indian. They can direct your group to Cherokee sites throughout North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia, and can provide interpretation. Traditional Cherokee Indian Dinner: This usually includes chicken, bean bread, hominy, potatoes, wild greens in season, herb tea, and fruit cobbler. The menu varies seasonally. Vegetarians and diabetics can be accommodated. The number of dinners must be confirmed two weeks in advance. $15. per person. Field trips on your own in the Cherokee area, free of charge:
